Euthanasia

"The act of humanely ending an animal's life to relieve suffering, particularly when an animal is facing incurable illness or severe injury"

Making the decision to euthanase a pet is one of the hardest decisions you will ever have to make. Our pets are part of our families, and it can be just as hard to say goodbye to them as it is to say goodbye to another human.

We all tend to hope that as our pets age, they will get to the point where they just don’t wake up one morning, saving us from having to make the decision. Unfortunately, this is rarely the case.

It is really important to understand that euthanasia, when done for the right reasons, is not cruel, and we will not think poorly of you for making the decision. It is a kindness that we can offer our pets, to leave the world in a painless manner, and we will 100% support you.

At Total Care, we understand that everyone’s bond is slightly different, and everyone’s belief system is slightly different, meaning that when and how you choose to say goodbye will be different.

It is our job to advocate for what is best for your pet. We don’t want to see them suffer any more than you do, but we aren’t going to push you to make a decision before you are ready.

As humans, we are very much wired to consider time as the most important factor, but often times that leads to a prolonged decline and potentially increased time spent with a poor quality of life. Time is not a concept that pets really understand (except maybe dinner time!), or dwell on. What is important to them is that they are comfortable and happy.

We will support your decision-making process with information on assessing quality of life, and the things that contribute to this for your pet.
