Whether you choose to have euthanasia performed at home, or in the clinic, the process is the same. You can choose to be involved for as little, or as much of the procedure as you are comfortable with. If you can’t bear to stay, that is fine – we will pet them and talk to them as if they were our own.
We will usually give your pet a sedative injection that will put them into a fairly deep sleep. You can then cuddle and love them as much as you would like. Once they are sleepy, we can place an IV without distressing them with restraint or causing them pain.
At this point, if you would prefer to leave, you can do so without your pet knowing, so as far as they are concerned, you were with them until the very end. Of course if you want to stay for the whole procedure, you absolutely can.
